Hiland Receivers and Third-Party Remote Controls: Frequency and Integration Explained
Integrators frequently ask us: Are your receivers compatible with third-party remote controls that operate at different frequencies?
It is an excellent question, and one that matters whenever a new gate opener, tubular motor receiver, or access control board needs to be integrated with equipment already installed on site.
What Actually Determines Compatibility
Wireless compatibility is not determined by brand alone. It is determined by two engineering parameters:
- Radio frequency: the transmitter's carrier frequency must match the receiver's tuned frequency.
- Encoding protocol: the code format used by the transmitter must be understood by the receiver.
If either parameter is different, the receiver will not respond. This applies to Hiland equipment just as it does to any other manufacturer.
A Frequency Reference: Gate Remote Transmitter T6108
Hiland's Gate Remote Transmitter T6108 operates at 433.92 MHz. It uses rolling code, provides 1 channel, is powered by a 3VDC CR2032 battery, and offers a working distance of 50 meters indoors. When a Hiland receiver is tuned to the same 433.92 MHz frequency band and uses the same compatible code system, the transmitter can reliably control gates, barriers, or other automated devices.
Rolling Code Is a Second Layer of Compatibility
Frequency matching alone is not enough. Even when two devices share the same frequency, the coding system must also be compatible. The T6108 uses rolling code technology, meaning the transmitted code changes with every button press to prevent code capture and replay. A third-party remote control that uses fixed code or a different rolling-code algorithm cannot be regarded as compatible with a rolling-code receiver without changing the receiver or the remote.
Practical Integration Guidelines
- Identify the operating frequency of your existing third-party remote control before selecting a new receiver.
- Determine whether the existing remote uses fixed code or rolling code.
- When replacing only the receiver, choose a Hiland receiver that matches the frequency and code format of the existing transmitter.
- When replacing the whole system, pair Hiland transmitters with Hiland receivers to ensure reliable compatibility and correct functionality.
- Share your current system details with the Hiland team so they can recommend the right product for your access control or intercom integration project.
